Peace through Play is 140 member student organization based out of Northeastern university with the overall vision to see students empowering students to change the world by creating a culture of peace. Our volunteers work with approximately 200 children in grades preK-8 in 6 recess and after-school programs in the Roxbury, Dorchester, and Cambridge communities.
Our organization focuses on engaging students in conversations about peace and social justice and encouraging students to explore their identities and the role that they play in their communities while providing them with the tools and initiate dialogues about peaceful conflict resolution. Peace through Play uses games and art activities as primary teaching methods because they create a safe space for dialogue to occur while providing children with more tangible representation of abstract concepts.
In the fall, students explore themes such as self awareness, advocacy, community, leadership, respect, conflict resolution, and empowerment. In the spring, students challenged to put the knowledge they have acquired into action by participating in a number of student led community service, or as we call “peacemaker” projects!
